Travel to Kenya
Debunking the Myth about travel to Kenya
Few Questions that we get asked a lot are:
When is the best time to travel to Kenya?
Why Should I promote Kenya from November till March?
Is there any wildlife to be seen after Migration Season ends?
Kenya’s climate varies from tropical along the coast to temperate inland to arid in the north and northeast parts of the country. The area receives a great deal of sunshine every month, and summer clothes are worn throughout the year. It is usually cool at night and early in the morning inland at higher elevations.
The “long rains” season occurs from March/April to May/June. The “short rains” season occurs from October to November/December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The temperature remains high throughout these months of tropical rain. The hottest period is February and March, leading into the season of the long rains, and the coldest is in July, until mid-August.
As you can see from the Stats above, Wildlife is available to be seen around the year. On the Contrary by travelling between November and beginning of March you
1) Are enjoying Better rates.
2) Getting better Scenery
3) Still experiencing plenty of Wildlife (here of course if you are lucky you would see newborns throughout the park)
4) It is more peaceful and Quieter due to lack of crowds.
5) Get to see Migratory birds.
PRO TIP: To someone like me, it makes more sense to travel when crowds are less and rates are to your benefit. You have fewer people crowding around the animals and you can stay at a Place viewing the wildlife in all its glory longer as you don’t need to make place for the others.
You would still see the Zebras and Wildebeests (none of which make the “Big 5” though not in the same numbers. Your chances of seeing the Big 5 are still the same. Unless you were a Wildlife photographer (Even they travel towards the beginning of Migration or towards the end, to avoid crowds) Your experience is likely to be more enhanced by travelling between November and beginning of Februrary.
